November 3 is around the corner! My name is Sunil Dasgupta, and I'm running for the at-large seat on the Montgomery County Board of Education. If you want to help:
A Big Wrench in Public Education
Since March, our lives upturned by the pandemic, by a federal administration unwilling to step up to protect Americans, and by the murder of George Floyd. In Maryland, our governor is looking to cut budgets. In Montgomery County, students and alumni from across our schools have stepped forward with powerful testimonies of racism as well as sexual violence and misconduct. The stakes could not be higher for our children. I will be an independent voice who supports students, families, teachers, and school staff. I will bring my professional expertise as an educator, as a public policy scholar, and as an academic planner. I will add the fresh perspective of a first-generation immigrant and a community activist. I will focus on helping students recover from Covd-19 academic losses, on making schools more equitable, and on student and staff mental health and wellness. As we enter one of the most challenging periods our school system has ever faced, the Board of Education is going to be asked to make tough decisions. I will bring to the Board table a broad coalition that spans the county from Takoma Park to Poolesville and from Bethesda to Clarksburg and includes students and their families, teachers and staff, and community groups such as CASA in Action. I'm ready to work with you to lead our school system and our community through this difficult moment together. Read more about me here and my writing here and here. Read more about priorities here. To know more about who is supporting me and why, go here. Help Sunil win in November!
